Mission Statement

Melanie Abrantes Designs is a Bay Area-based design studio and purveyor of handcrafted, heirloom objects. Working with a variety of unique materials, predominantly cork and wood, Melanie creates high-quality products and home goods that are both beautiful and functional. All cork pieces are handmade in our Oakland studio through the process of lathing. Each piece starts as a solid block and is hand-turned to create bowls, vases, planters and anything else we can dream up.

We believe in sustainability and reducing our carbon footprint. Our wood products are made from domestic, FSC-certified woods, and turned in the United States. Our cork pieces are sourced from Portugal and happen to be one of the most sustainable materials on the market. All of our packaging is Kraft paper-based (100% biodegradable) and/or recycled plastics and papers whenever possible.
