Design Studio Assistant

Our Design team is seeking a talented Studio assistant to join our team at our Oakland, California location. We're looking for someone who is self-motivated and wants to contribute to a growing team. Must understand the importance of quality standards and has a dedication to implementing them. If you are detail- oriented and enjoy working in a fast paced environment, please apply! Job Responsibilities:

  • Helps with day to day activities in the studio

  • Helps with creating graphics for events and social media

  • Packaging + Shipping products per deadlines and upcoming order requirements 

  • Answer email inquiries

  • Documenting processes

  • Maintain inventory of packaging items, products and materials

  • Responsible for trash and recycling maintenance

  • Assistance with studio upkeep including dusting (wood turning makes a lot of dust!), maintaining of plants and quarterly deep cleaning

  • Assisting with finishing for each product, including sanding, painting, oiling and stamping with hot iron printer   

  • Works one-on-one with Melanie to create designs for the studio product line

  • Creates 3D designs from sketches from designers, drawings and prototype samples utilizing design software.

Requirements:

  • Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment while maintaining strong attention to detail.

  • Willing to work in the product design/maker industry.

  • Proficiency in all relative design software willingness to train where software deficiencies are identified.

  • Must be autonomous and pro-active

  • Industrial design or graphic design background is a must

  • Proficiency in Solidworks or Rhino, or other rendering packages is a must.

  • New Grads are welcome to apply with a portfolio.

Work Hours and Benefits

This job position is an hourly ($18-$20) 8-16 hours a week, Part Time, Tuesday-Friday. Applicants must have reliable transportation, be willing to travel occasionally as needed (1-2 times a year) and have flexibility during the holiday season as needed (occasional Saturdays the month of November & December). Part Time Benefits include educational sponsorship opportunities. Pay is commensurate with experience.

Education, Experience, and Physical Requirements:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent

  • 1-2 years preferred experience in an office or fabrication environment

  • Fluency in Gmail, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Mac OS

  • Experience in Dropbox preferred but not required

  • Woodworking experience a plus but not required

  • SCM software experience preferred

  • Must be able to stand or sit for long periods (up to 8 hours)

  • Must be able to lift 25lbs

This is an entry level position. We are basically looking for a jack/jill-of-all-trades with a great eye and attention to detail. Applicants must possess an ability to work with no supervision and be a great multitasker. Woodworking and hands on skills is a huge plus ! This is a part-time gig with potential to become longer. It will be 8-16 hrs a week, we are open to more depending on how much work is needed!
